Our Wonderful Years...

Over the course of the average lifetime you meet a lot of people. Some of them stick with you through thick and thin. Some weave their way through your life and disappear forever. But once in a while someone comes along who earns a permanent place in your heart.

Brown hair, brown eyes. When she smiled, I smiled. When she cried, I cried. Every single thing that happened to me that mattered, in some way, had to do with her. After all, she was my girl. And I knew that she understood that in some small way my achievements were her achievements.

The Fourth of July...

We had a great and truly spectacular Fourth of July celebration weekend! My Sister and Brother-in-law bought a new house and the closing date corresponded with the holiday weekend, which they used to their advantage for an extra day to move. We spent our Friday off packing up boxes and hauling them from the old house to the new house. Normally, this would have been the perfect weekend to do this, as the Fourth of July in Oregon is ALWAYS RAINY! However, this year it was almost 95 degrees! I’m so glad I wasn’t out in the truck like Steven packing and lifting. We were so tired and sore when we left and the next day too, but we got them all moved and some of it unpacked and put away. The new house doesn’t have A/C but you can’t even tell because it is surrounded by nice big trees! They hosted a back yard BBQ for everyone and burgers and hot dogs went all around. Their new back porch is pretty sweet; it even has a hot tub! This is not to mention the lake easement s they have now! Swim party!! ☺
We got up Saturday and spent some of the morning with Steven’s family out near Mt. Hood. It was another hot day and so it felt good to be out in the country enjoying some cooler (not really, still over 80!) temperatures. We got to see June, Rich and Justin plus Jim and Jill and Grandma. Steven and I were going back and forth on what to take to the potluck and finally decided I’d make a pasta salad (this is more for me than anyone else due to my dietary restrictions) and KFC chicken (the ONLY time we have it each year). Steven’s Mom told us that it opened at 10 and so we hustled to get out of the house and on the road on time. I could tell we were rushing a bit, but when we pulled up- they were still CLOSED! Turns out they don’t open until 10:30! We were able to walk over to a Safeway and I got a cup of tea while we waited. Thankfully that was the only damper on our day.
We left the potluck with everyone else and headed home for some nap time before heading over to Shelly and Chris’ new place. They had invited us to a party they were headed to and the host graciously offered us into his home and a seat on their spot at the Lake for fireworks that night. We had a great time and the Lake show was one of the best we’d seen. It was a great night for everyone, especially Colin who had a TON of fun playing with all the other kids and wearing glow bracelets (I got one too, because I’m a big kid! ☺). There was so much food that I think we ate leftovers all day Sunday before returning to work on Monday.
